Greyhound Races
Greyhound Races are super popular in France and have been since the 1978, when the French Federation of Racing Greyhounds started to regulate these under the Ministry of Agriculture. But people have been racing their Grayhounds, since the early 1900´s. Now It consists of 11 regional societies that conduct races at a minimum of 18 venues throughout the country. In 2012 a total of 71 race meetings were held. A majority of dogs participating in races are actually whippets. Out of the 524 dogs that raced in 2012, only 76 were greyhounds.
A bit about the Federation:
The Federation has its own set of racing rules, which include mandates for the size of the tracks, permit and license requirements and a prohibition against doping. There are currently 14 greyhound breeding kennels in France listed on greyhound-data.com, an online database maintained by dog racing gamblers. This sport is growing now online!
Is wagering on Greyhounds legal?
Yes it is. Wagering on greyhound races is legal under Decree No.83/922 of 20 October 1983. In 2012, 117 564,00€ was bet on greyhound racing through the Federation. In ten years the total amount wagered has declined by 53%. This has to do with several animal rights groups protesting against the sport.
LEAP Gaming has made sure that if you are not able to go on the tracks, you can bet on their Virtual Greyhound Races and even on their Trotting and virtual Horses. They do bring quite a lot to the table as a game provider, as they have all the favorite Horse and Greyhound betting games, but also several live casino games and more!

How does greyhound racing work?
Greyhound racing is an organized, competitive sport in which greyhounds are raced around a track. There are two forms of greyhound racing, track racing (normally around an oval track) and coursing. Track racing uses an artificial lure (now based on a windsock) that travels ahead of the dogs on a rail until the greyhounds cross the finish line. As with horse racing, greyhound races often allow the public to bet on the outcome.
In many countries greyhound racing is purely amateur and solely for enjoyment. In other countries, like Australia, Macau, France, Spain and the United Kingdom, greyhound racing is part of the gambling industry and similar to horse racing. In France it has been dominating the gambling and betting industry for years, but in the past years it has gone down, also probably as there are several game studios that make the game easier to access and the odds are even a bit better online. There are also no real dogs used in these.
